Why are Godly friendships so important?
After reading and meditating on the story between Jonathan and David I pray that you understand the importance of true friends. What an amazing example right?
That being said, God is infinite and knew the struggles David and Saul would have. God knew the hardships you and I will face, in our past, present, and future too.
Godly friendships provide the support needed to see you through life’s challenges, both the ups and downs. First and foremost, God is and should be the one we turn to first…no matter what.
That being said, God also has given us the gift of Godly friendships and I am forever grateful for this blessing, aren’t you?
Why should you pursue Godly friendships?
God has given you the tremendous blessing of Godly friendships, that being said, however, you also have an adversary…Satan himself seeks to steal, kill, and destroy the way God intended friendships to be.
With this in mind, you must use discernment in the friends you pursue and make certain they’re Godly friendships.
I’m more than certain you’ve heard the phrase your personality becomes like those you surround yourselves with, right? I don’t mean to come across as judging others but whether you choose to believe this or not, it’s a proven fact time and time again.
Thoughts become actions! Actions become words! Let’s not forget about gossiping too. Ouch! Pray for the Holy Spirit to speak truth to your heart and soul and do the convicting in your own life. Trust me when I say I’ve been under conviction about this very topic more than once!

Why do we need Godly friendships in our lives?
We need to be in a community of Godly friends that have the same common goal as we do. What does this look like? Are you a Godly friend to those around you? Check out the post from my friend Susan Nelson about what Godly friendship is and isn’t.
1. Godly Friendships keep us accountable for our actions
This one is huge for me. Why? More often than not you can become so blinded by your “own sin” that you can’t see your sin. Maybe you do see it, but rather choose to “ignore it” altogether right?
True friends will tell us when we’re veering off our God-given path. Don’t get me wrong they will do this in a nonjudgemental way.
I couldn’t be more thankful for my lifegroup friends. I know without a shadow of a doubt all of them will speak the truth to me when I “mess up.” Not only this, but they will also hold me accountable. I NEED THIS!
My husband and I host and lead Lifegroup in our home and we have what is called accountability time. We separate the men from the women and bare our souls to one another. Believe it or not, this is a necessary and powerful thing!
2. Godly friendships speak truth to us
Point plank honesty here y’all. True friends aren’t scared to tell like it is. They’ll be brutally honest with you. Again, more often than not they see something more clearly than you can see for yourself. When it comes to what does the bible say about friendship…This is the definition of true friends!
3. Godly friendships help you through life’s challenging times
Life isn’t an easy path. Becoming a Christian does not make you exempt from trials and suffering. Look at Job and ALL he went through. What did His true friends say and do? I rest my case!
4. Godly Friendships keep you on the right path in your daily Sanctification
Godly friendships make you all-around better people. How? They help you make God-honoring choices and help you to keep your focus on what it needs to be on…All things are from an eternal perspective versus a worldly perspective. Can I get an AMEN?
5. True Friends encourage
Do you know that Godly friendships are as much a part of our family as blood relatives are? Most of my family lives in Kentucky so I lean on my Lifegroup and church family for encouragement and prayer.
I know without a shadow of a doubt if I’m struggling I can text any member for guidance. This is being true friends with one another.
6. True friends point you to Jesus
You all have people in your lives who are “your friends.” That being said, however, they may not be Christian and are on a completely different path than you are on.
Does this mean you should stop being their friend? Of course NOT! You MUST make it a priority to be positive witnesses to them and point them to Jesus.
In other words, be a living testimony and light for Christ that they notice something different about you. Trust me, they will notice and ask questions. Just keep in mind you become who you hang around.
These relationships consistently point you to Jesus and they will be TRUE FRIENDS that you will need in your life!
