What are your words and actions displaying? Do YOU follow Jesus’ example of love and humility? Here are tips and quotes on how we must follow Christ’s example. What are your words and actions saying about you? Possibly a better question to ask is are your words and actions a reflection of Christ? Do your actions speak louder than words?
Have you ever said something out of anger that you regret and want to take them back? I know I certainly have. Are your words and actions a reflection of Christ one hundred percent of the time?
No one other than Christ is perfect so I believe it’s safe to assume NO! Words often fly out of your mouth and after the fact, you think now why did I go and say that? Hello, can I have a rewind, please?
Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. Once words are spoken, they can not be taken back no matter how much you pray they could be. The damage has been done, unfortunately!
Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45
In other words, what’s truly in your heart, will flow out of your mouth. Whether that be good or bad.

Why Should Words and Actions Be A Reflection of Christ?
How can you be a reflection of Christ in your words and actions? What are some examples of Christ’s character? Jesus displayed a…
- Trusting heart, that produced an encouraging tongue.
- A loving heart, that produced a gracious tongue.
- Faithful heart, that produced a truthful tongue.
- Peaceful heart, that produced a reconciling tongue.
I can only speak for myself. I would much prefer to use my tongue to encourage and uplift others in the same way my Heavenly Father did. To be Christ-like, we must love and speak like Jesus.
Your Actions Become Words
Notice I used the word prefer! I do NOT always follow Christ’s example. I know as a Christian, that’s what I’m called to do. Now ask me if I follow his example always. That would be a big NO!! Sad but True!
You are human and deeply flawed by nature, as well. We all are. However, that does NOT give you the excuse, to treat people poorly, and say things you know you shouldn’t. Now here is where it gets real. Get ready to roll your pants up all of you, ’cause it’s gonna get deep in here fast.
Satan comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. John 10:10
Satan Uses Your Words and Actions Against You
Satan thrives on you using your tongue in a manner that isn’t pleasing to the Lord. He uses every trick and ploy at his disposal so you can beat yourself up over them again and again. Here comes the truth. Now see where you find yourself being convicted of a:
- The critical heart produces a critical tongue.
- A self-righteous heart produces a judgmental tongue.
- A bitter heart produces a harsh tongue.
- An ungrateful heart produces a grumbling tongue.
Can you see your heart in how your words flow out in these suggestions? I know I am guilty of all of them! It burdens my heart to admit that. But the truth will stand when the world is on fire.
If you aren’t willing to admit these truths to yourself how do you ever think you will stop letting them control your every word?

There’s Accountability for Your Words and Actions
You do NOT realize or flat-out do NOT care that the power of the words you use can destroy! Words can be the death of marriages, families, friendships, churches, and reputations, and the list can go on and on.
It’s in the heat of the moment, you tend to lash out, and think about what you said later when you should be using encouraging words of hope.
Actions Display Your Character
More often than not you speak harshly to the people you love most. You sit and dwell on what you spoke, and let your words fester like a blister. You already know what comes next. You start pointing fingers, at anyone and everyone but yourself, right?
Do you make excuses for your actions and behavior? You started it! It’s your fault! No one wants to admit they were in the wrong in how they approached something or handled a situation and say I’m sorry when you should forgive like Jesus.
Be ye angry, and sin not, let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Ephesians 4:26
Speak the Truth in Love
If you go to bed angry it gives Satan a foothold in your mind and heart. Have you ever heard this phrase? If you give Him an inch he will take a mile? Same concept here. Satan will try to twist and turn your words and will have you believe ALL kinds of lies that what you spoke is justified.
You can NOT allow that to happen. It will set you on a downward spiral that you don’t want to be on. Trust me on that! I’ve been there and done that more times than I can count!
Think Before You Speak
Do whatever is necessary to calm down. If you find yourself getting angry and want to lash out…remember as a Christian, you are to be a reflection of Christ. Count to ten, walk away or leave the room. Do what it takes, to make you the man or woman you know you should be.
What Are Your Words and Actions Saying?
Humans are sinful and full of selfish pride. Not only this but scripture tells you from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. More often than not they’re painful daggers being thrown at your loved ones and friends.
When those who observe you in an unguarded state what do they witness and hear from your words and actions? Here are bible verses about being careful what you say!
WWJD: What Would Jesus Do?
What would Jesus think of your words and actions? Would he be proud or disappointed? Jesus is the one you are to imitate! Trust me, I know how hard it is not to want to verbally attack someone who is coming at you full force.
Satan works in those instances more than any other time. The Devil does NOT want you to follow Jesus Christ’s example in actions and words.
WDSW: What Does Satan Want?
Satan wants discord and friction and he doesn’t want you to forgive the one who has wronged you. If he keeps you separated from those you feel have wronged you or vice versa, he is winning! Guess what! I have read the last book in the Bible. Satan, DOES NOT WIN!
Bible Verses About Actions speak louder than words
I have listed scriptures below on words and actions. Trust me, I’m reminding myself, of these Scriptures too.

But now you must put aside all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. Colossians 3:8
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. Psalm 37:30

Your Turn
You must remember that your words and actions matter. You are human and make mistakes but that doesn’t give you the right to keep hurting those around you with the words you choose to speak. I want to leave you with one final thought. Your words can be used to wound or heal! So choose wisely! Once spoken they can NOT be taken back! Be a reflection of Christ in humility!
