When all you have are fond memories, grief is hard, right?
Some of us know how to hold tight to the fragile pieces of our broken hearts, tearing the flesh of our bare hands.
- Will this heart know joy again?
- What about the way our beloved made us feel?
- Will this storm call grief to be still someday?
I needed to talk this over. She has aged well. You know it’s so hard to let go of those you love, whether it’s a parent, or child…aged or younger.
Maybe I didn’t give enough or there was more than I could have done. That sadness gripped my heart. I wept deep within.
“She knew you loved her. You showed it in more ways than you know. What is the one thing grandma would have you do?”- my hubby encouraged me with these words.
She would love for me to continue the legacy she left behind. She was a woman of faith. She was fearless.
Grief taught me to value the moments and the people that matter in my life. We don’t have all the time in the world. Tick tock and time slowly ticks away.
No one can master grief. No one can tell another how to grieve well, how to react, or give another the right words to say. In grief, what not to say (What to Say Instead).
Comfort can only come from the One above; the one who understands our suffering. God alone knows the purpose for the pain we bare.
I say this with utmost care.

God knows how to comfort our hearts during those hard days.
Only God alone can grant us peace and joy after experiencing loss.

5 Ways to Find Peace and Joy after a Loss
1. Hold on to good memories
You can look at pictures and cry. That’s ok. Choose to moan from a place of gratitude, not sorrow. It is the sorrow that eats us away. We cry with hope and not as those without. Pause and Think: What would your loved one want you to do?
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. Revelation 21:4
2. Choose gratitude
It is not easy to see gratitude amid loss. As my loved ones gathered and each shared their stories, my heart was drawn to thankfulness over pain.
Today, I am thankful for the losses. I am thankful I met them. Joy and thankfulness go hand in hand. You can’t be thankful and not enjoy the bliss of joyfulness.
3. Count your blessings
It is time to name them one after another. Pause and think: recall fond memories of your loved one. Spend time in prayer writing out what you are grateful for.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
4. Let go of the guilt
Satan, the lies of the devil, often tell tales that bring guilt. To be honest, we may not have done everything right in our relationships. That doesn’t matter now. What does is how we choose to remember. How we choose to live from the lessons we have learned.

5. Be intentional about the relationships you still have
When we lose a loved one, we lose other things too. It is a good thing that life allows us to build and gain new friends, and people we can call family.
We are not created to do life alone. Loss reminds us of the importance of relationships. As we grow from here, think of places you want to see positive changes.
Family and friends happen when we keep our hands open, our hearts tender, and our knees in prayer. Comfort can be in the form of people too.
And Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother Sarah’s tent, and she became his wife. He loved her deeply, and she was a special comfort to him after the death of his mother. Genesis 24:67
God Is Closer Than You Think
God is close to the brokenhearted. It is time to hold on to God. Grief and loss are hard journeys. Yet, it holds lessons we can benefit from. There is a purpose amid loss.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalm 34:18
We may not have clarity yet but the purpose will reveal itself as we move in the grace God has given.
Their bodies are buried in peace, but their name liveth forevermore. Ecclesiasticus 44:14
