Since 2020 you have been forced to think outside the box when it comes to everyday activities and things you do for entertainment, right? That said, in all honesty, Christian movies, and faith-based series on mainstream TV are few and far between aren’t they? What happened to the good ole wholesome shows? Do you get frustrated with all the secular movies on television like me?
To put it another way, I don’t know about you but I feel the Holy Spirit’s conviction if I watch a show that I know is NOT the best choice as a Christian. Do you become convicted also?
Are you saddened by what the “world” views as must-see programs I have compiled a list of Christian Movies and Series for 2021 you can’t do without!

What are The Best Christian Movies and Series?
To be completely honest, even though some of these movies and series are my favorite Christian movies, they may not be appropriate for the entire family.
I do believe, in my opinion anyway, that they are safe, but some display the brutal reality of Jesus’ Crucifixion. For this reason, use your judgment when it comes to the “little ones” in your family.
Last but not least, if you are looking for a great date night these will NOT disappoint. Check out the movie trailers below, and the descriptions, and purchase the best Christian movies today!
I have a Pureflix subscription, which is faith-based, and most of the following are part of my package but you can also purchase or rent them too.
What are the best Christian series?
The Chosen
If you’re looking for a show that portrays the life of Jesus’ ministry you have to watch this mini-series! It’s beautifully done and talks about what I call the “Holy Chills’ from head to toe as you watch it! You will feel the very presence of God as you watch it, I promise you.
The Chosen is directed and co-written by Dallas Jenkins and is funded by people who support and watch it. It’s amazing how individuals will step out in a leap of faith on a project such as this.
Where can you watch the chosen?
You can watch The Chosen for free when you download the mobile app. You can get the app at: www.the chosen.tv/app or search “The Chosen” in your Apple or Android app store. From the app, you can stream to your TV using another device, such as Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, Chromecast, etc.
THE BIBLE Series
Roma Downey and Mark Burnett directed The Bible Series which is an epic 10-part miniseries showcasing stories from the Scriptures. The Bible features powerful visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through to Revelation. This historic series will inspire your whole family and is binge-worthy.
The Encounter
The Encounter is a Pureflix Original series. I LOVE this series. The theme of the show is What would you do if you had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ? The Encounter Series portrays individual life stories and illustrates how an unexpected experience with Jesus Christ can shift lives into a new and purposeful direction.
Ties That Bind
The Ties That Bind is about a detective, Allison McLean who is forced to step up when her brother is sent to prison, taking in his two teenage children. Allison McLean is a tough and experienced police detective in suburban Seattle. Sadly, this series only aired for 1 season but I still recommend it.
What are The Best Christian Movies?
God’s Not Dead (Part 1)
God’s Not Dead (part 1) is about a student who refuses to write God’s NOT Dead a statement!! This student clashes with His atheistic professor who insists that students will only pass his class by admitting that God is dead.
This philosophy teacher Radisson has a strong hatred of all things sacred and related to God. However, His new student sets out to prove to Him that God exists! This movie shows the power of God can change the hardest of hearts!
God’s Not Dead (Part 2)
God’s Not Dead (part 2) is about a teacher (Melissa Joan Hart) who gets asked a question by one of her students about Jesus. Sadly, her response lands her in deep trouble and could expel God from the public square forever.
I would personally LOVE more who will take a stand such as this in “real life” circumstances. However, in today’s “world,” it seems the ONLY way this will happen is if you attend a Christian school.
God’s Not Dead (Part 3) A Light in the Darkness
God’s Not Dead (part 3) is about a church on the campus of a state-run university, and therefore in the lion’s den of so-called diversity advocates who want nothing more than to silence the church for good.
So, Pastor Dave’s church is unexpectedly thrown into an epic legal battle by a state-run university that wants nothing more than for it to be shut down. However, God’s will prevails!
What Are The Best Christian Movies Based on True Stories?
In my opinion, when Christian movies are based on a “real-life” story it shows how the power of God changes the lives of not ONLY the individual whom the story is about but also everyone who watches the movie too.
The following Christian movies are based on true stories you can NOT miss. In the theatre, I don’t believe there was a dry in the place along with standing ovations when the movies ended.
I Can Only Imagine
I Can Only Imagine is a true story about the life of Bart Millard (MercyMe lead singer). Bart endures years of abuse from his father Arthur. The band toured for years but Bart never resolved the issues from his past and the band felt that Bart needed to get this resolved for the band to move forward.
Bart returns home and his father, Arthur claims to have become a Christian, but Bart is skeptical and refuses to forgive him, and leaves. In anger and despair, Bart attempts to drive away in Arthur’s pickup but discovers the terminal cancer diagnosis pamphlet and returns to help his father.
Bart forgives him, and the two become close but Arthur soon dies of his illness. I have watched this movie several times and still cry like a baby!
The inspiring true story behind Christian band MercyMe’s beloved, chart-topping song that brings ultimate hope to so many with the power of true love and forgiveness.
I recently learned that I Can Only Imagine is MercyMe’s first single, achieving success on both Christian and mainstream radio. Yay! MercyMe’s music has helped me personally through many trials and I hope to meet them in person and tell them exactly that!
I Still Believe
I Still Believe is the true-life story of Christian artist Jeremy Camp. Jeremy’s remarkable journey of love and loss proves there is always hope amid tragedy and that faith tested is the only faith worth sharing.
As you know, I work full-time as an Oncology Phlebotomist and care for patients with cancer so this movie hit close to home. I can only imagine what Jeremy Camp went through because I see it every day of my life with not only the patient but the patient’s family as well. This movie will make you remember that leaving a life of treasured memories is what’s most important!
I’m Not Ashamed
I’m Not Ashamed, is the inspiring true story of Rachel Joy Scott and the massacre at Columbine School. This movie is a hopeful reminder that when our lives are in God’s hands, we can make a world of difference in the lives of those around us.
Breakthrough
This movie is about a young boy “John” who falls through the ice on a frozen lake in Missouri. Trapped underwater for more than 15 minutes, rescuers bring John back to the surface and rush him to the nearest hospital. While doctors fear the worst, the 14-year-old boy continues to fight for his life. This movie proves the power of prayer and persistence.
Unplanned
Unplanned is a movie I believe ALL women need to watch! I told my husband that I wanted to see it however in my heart I truly wasn’t prepared for certain parts of it. I know abortion is NOT pretty by any stretch of the imagination…but…I had no clue.
This is a true story about Abby Johnson. She wanted to help women and believed in a woman’s right to choose. Abby was one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation. Over 22,000 abortions took place while she was involved in the clinic.
To God be the glory, this changed when she was asked to help during a procedure. As Abby watched the procedure taking place she saw for herself how the “BABY” fought for its life leading her to join her former enemies and become one of the most ardent pro-life advocates in America. PRAISE GOD!!!!
Jesus of Nazareth
Jesus of Nazareth in my opinion is one of the most magnificent miniseries ever created. From the Nativity to the Crucifixion and Resurrection, the life of Jesus (played by Robert Powell) is presented with stunning depth, gravity, and emotion.
This is one of my favorites on the life of Jesus of Nazareth and remains one of the finest depictions of the story of Christ even after forty years released. It’s an oldie but goodie!!
Paul, Apostle of Christ
This movie is about the Apostle Paul who goes from the most infamous persecutor of Christians to Christ’s most influential apostle. This spectacular movie is about Paul’s last days in a dark and bleak prison cell awaiting execution by Emperor Nero. Luke, his friend, and physician risks his life when he ventures to Rome to visit him.
Paul is under the watchful eye of Mauritius, the prison’s prefect, who seeks to understand how this broken old man can pose such a threat. But before Paul’s death sentence can be enacted, Luke resolves to write another book, one that details the beginnings of “The Way” and the birth of what will come to be known as the church.
The faith and courage of Paul and Luke challenged an empire. But their words changed the world. YOU have to watch this! Again, it portrays how Christ can change someone whom we feel is “unreachable!”
Do You Believe
A clergyman’s re-energized faith and commitment have a far-reaching impact on a physician, a paramedic, a homeless woman, and others this pastor is shaken to his core by a street-corner preacher’s courage, the ensuing faith-fueled journey is a powerful reminder that true belief always requires action.
Touched by Grace
This is a movie about a young girl with Down Syndrome who is befriended by a new girl vying to become homecoming queen. Sadly, they become the unknowing targets of a mean high school prank, plotted by the school’s most popular girls. This is such a tender-hearted movie and one that will become a favorite for your whole family.

The Book of Ruth
A biblical story from the Bible about the royal Jewish bloodline! Choosing to leave her homeland and follow her mother-in-law to Israel, a young widow, Ruth captures the heart of wealthy Boaz.
Their romance sets the stage for the kingship of Israel and the coming of the Messiah. This is a story of the loyalty and friendship between two women, Ruth and Naomi, all based on biblical accounts.
The Case for Christ
The true story of an investigative journalist and avowed atheist who applies his skills to disprove the Christian faith of his wife with life-altering results. The Case for Christ records Lee Strobel’s attempt to “determine if there’s credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God.”
The Passion of the Christ
Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci star in this famous epic depicting the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem.
This movie is by far the most realistic version of Jesus’s final hours on Earth. It is also the hardest to watch because they don’t sugarcoat the brutal murder of Jesus. Please use parental discretion for the little ones as far as this movie is concerned.
Samson
Samson, empowered by God with supernatural strength, endangers his destiny with impulsive decisions that lead to betrayal by a wicked prince and a beautiful temptress. When Samson calls on his God once more, he turns imprisonment and blindness into final victory.
