Overcoming The Spirit Of Fear The Truth You Need To Know (Fear From Abuse)

To begin with, fear from abuse can leave you with emotions such as persistent panic, unrelenting dread, tenacious terror, tremors that can shake your entire being, and feelings of worthlessness.

When I tell someone I was in an abusive situation for almost fifteen years or share My testimony people look at me like I’m Crazy.

Overcoming the spirit of fear takes time. As a result, I can also tell you beforehand the next words that will proceed from their lips with good intentions. It’s a given!

“If my husband ever lays a hand on me, I’d be gone so quick he wouldn’t know what hit him!” or “You allowed him to treat You that way,?” “What is wrong with YOU?” or “Why didn’t YOU just leave?”

-Well meaning people

Friends, trust me I get it, and do I blame anyone for making these statements and asking these questions because I said the same words too…Until I found myself in that position.

I want you to grasp the knowledge that overcoming fear is possible when you choose to choose faith over fear. I’m not going to lie and tell you this is an easy task because it’s not. However, overcoming the spirit of fear is possible with God.

You Will Have Peace Again

Fear from abuse may leave you wondering if you will ever feel normal and have peace in your life again. I want to be honest with you in the following 2 ways.

  1. I’d love to be able to tell you once you leave the abusive situation everything’s going to be sunshine and rainbows but that wouldn’t be the truth.
  2. Even if it’s been many years since leaving your abuser you may still feel shattered and broken at times or at least I do.

To tell the truth, when these unwanted thoughts invade my mind I have to remind myself who and where My Identity is found in…Jesus Christ…NOT the victim or frightened shell of the individual I used to be.

I knew I wanted to write another post in this particular Category. Abuse from a spouse is near and dear to my heart.

Why?

I want to be an advocate and help support others who are or have been in any type of abusive situation. But God…my two favorite words.

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

What is more, the lies of Satan don’t want me to do this post because it’s been one battle after another being fought tooth and nail.

Unfortunately, Satan knows this is a weakness of mine, and as soon as God placed this topic on my heart the walls started crumbling around me. That being said, I’m overcoming the spirit of fear and I won’t let him have the victory!

What Is Physical Abuse?

Physical abuse is defined as any deliberate act, behavior, or physical force by an individual or individuals against someone that causes them bodily harm, injury, trauma, or puts their life in danger.

FIRST, YOU MUST CHOOSE FAITH OVER FEAR

However, I can only speak for myself but any of these would fall under the Fear Definition:

  • An unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger.

Secondly, God Hates Abuse

And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. Malachi 2:15

Reaction From Fear

Overcoming the spirit of fear when someone walks up behind me is hard to this day. My automatic reaction is to flinch in fear due to my past years of abuse.

In other words, you should see some of the looks I get because they’re rather priceless. Above all else, I try to joke it off but those who know my background “get it.”

For instance, the fact I have major hearing loss doesn’t help the matter one bit. You will understand better what I mean by that if you read Eternal Perspective: A Better Perspective.

Sometimes my co-workers don’t understand what makes me…ME. All of us Phlebotomists have our own lab space. I’m usually facing a patient or inputting information into the computer.

FAITH OVER FEAR

As a rule, when a co-worker walks up behind me and starts speaking 9 times out of 10 I jump out of my skin due to fear because I don’t hear them walk in. Talking about feeling like you’re a nutcase sometimes.

As a result, I’m sure they probably think that and then some. The fact of the matter is I hate having that reaction. Now the question remains…How do I defeat overcoming fear and that feeling?

Shermane’s Story of Overcoming the Spirit of Fear: She Tells You to Give it to God

I have a resource dedicated specifically to helping abused women available to give you the information you may need. You will also learn Why Abuse Isn’t Love. Love is the exact opposite! Love is what’s stated in what’s called the Love Chapter of the Bible…1 Corinthians 13 Devotional.

Your Turn

For your sake, I sincerely hope and pray you NEVER have to endure abuse but I have a short E-book I’ve written that I would love for you to check out if you have been abused. I go a little deeper into what my life was like, how it’s made me the woman I am today, and how God’s grace has seen me through it all. In Christ, you will find helpful ways to find healing from abuse. Incidentally, for those who have experienced abuse.
