Reasons You Should be Putting God First?

Let’s reflect on the questions I just asked you. I must admit I feel as if I’m failing miserably. I can only speak for myself and your responses are between you and God. You don’t give account to Angie, however, just like me, we will be held accountable to God.

Now, this is not a guilt trip by any means because I realize I’m guilty. However, I’m personally committing that I MUST do a better job of keeping God first. What about you friend?

God chose You First

This is a promise to hold fast to. You didn’t choose God. God chose You. It’s ALL because of Christ and you owe him your complete devotion. You may say, “Angie, Why Did God Choose Me?”

It is an undeniable fact that God has chosen you before you were ever even created. But “why” did God choose you? Is there something special about you that led God to choose you?

The simple truth of the matter is, no, God did not choose you because of anything you can bring to the table. God simply chose you because of His love and mercy towards you, so you can be used by Him to bring Glory to His name!

God chose you to demonstrate His character. He chose you so that you may know Him and love Him. Lastly, God chose you because of His never-ending love and kindness toward you.

When you put God first everything else falls into place

If you could only grasp this reality! When you are putting God first in your life, the other areas in your life will be in sync with God’s will.

You must acknowledge your love for God determines the interests you pursue, and how you prioritize your time. The following quote by Ezra Taft Benson states it far better.

“When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities.”

Ezra Taft Benson

If you’re not putting God first Change Direction

Now I don’t know about you but my priorities need adjusting. Life gets so busy pulling in many different directions. I don’t want that to sound like a lazy excuse but it’s true.

At times it feels as if you hit a brick wall trying to handle things on your own, doesn’t it? Yet it’s during this time when we finally look up and ask the Lord for help.

See you tend to make your life so complicated when the truth of the matter is if you are keeping God first in your life, everything else will line up correctly according to God’s will.

Don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying your life will be all hunky-dory, but it does mean that God will be there to help bring order to your life.

keeping God first Means spending time in prayer

This is an area that convicts me enormously. To put it another way, you make time for everything else but don’t set aside the adequate time needed for prayer.

If we were keeping God first our prayer life would come much easier and bolder. Can you relate to this?

When you confess to being a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, you will make time for Him in prayer.

Putting God first means choosing the right motives

When you go to God in prayer “Do you do it with God’s glory in mind or your own selfishness and pride?” Yes, I’m guilty of this one as well. Now please don’t take this the wrong way.

I’m by no means saying we can’t ask God to move on our behalf. However, is this “thing” you are asking God for, is it to advance “HIS” kingdom and to be a blessing to others, or your own?

Can you say OUCH! The truth cuts deep, doesn’t it?

God longs for his children to come to Him in prayer just to be alone with your Heavenly Father. This is the beauty of prayer. Quiet time with God getting to know Him more intimately.

When you desire to draw near to the Lord it will be seen in your prayer life. This being said, how is your prayer life?

God’s direction is clear

Putting God first in your life is doing what “HE” would have you do vs what “YOU” want to do. “HIS” way vs “YOUR” way.

Trust me, it’s taken far too long for me to realize God’s ways are far higher than my own. If you are seeking God’s direction, the paths you take in life become much smoother.

When “SELF” gets in the way of allowing God to take the lead is when you make a big ole mess of things!

Can I get an AMEN?

Are we acknowledging the importance of walking with God daily?

live with eternity in mind

Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. Psalm 144:4

Life is so short and everything you do or not does affect the Kingdom. God’s word states your life is like a fleeting shadow.

This alone should stop you in your tracks and fall on your knees before the throne of grace. Ask God to reveal the changes you need to make in your lives.

Below are some questions you need to reflect on and pray over.

  1. What are you doing now that has an eternal purpose?
  2. What are you doing that’s changing your personal life or the lives of others?
  3. Are you living each day with an eternal purpose in mind?
  4. Do you grasp the importance of sharing the gospel? Are you doing it?
