What does “In Remembrance of Me” mean to you? Have you ever wondered what it would have been like being one of Jesus’ twelve disciples? Can you picture and sense it? To wrap your human mind around that probably doesn’t come close to the actual reality, right? Talking about being in AWE! This post is about transitioning from not feeling worthy enough for communion to understanding what Jesus meant that night.
Honestly, can you imagine, walking, talking, witnessing miracles, and being taught by God in the flesh? If you would have been one of His 12 disciples wouldn’t you have hung on to every word the Lord and Savior said and all he did?
Do In Remembrance Of Me
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26
MAKE SURE TO PIN FOR LATER
What Is Do In Remembrance Of Me Mean?
Do you get what I call the Holy chills when you feel God’s presence? Aren’t you looking forward to the day when you will see the Lord face to face? Nothing can compare to that moment!
What is the Symbolism of Communion?
Communion is the ultimate remembrance that symbolizes Jesus Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and return. It reminds you of Christ’s ultimate love and sacrifices for you. What Jesus demonstrated on the Cross should completely humble you and move you to your knees in repentance.

What was the Last Supper like for the 12 Disciples?
Now, I want you to meditate on the last supper for just a few moments. Picture it vividly in your mind. Can you sense what that moment was like for those closest to Jesus Christ at that time?
However, what took place changed everything! As Jesus was preparing to have his final meal with his disciples he knew beforehand that one of his twelve would soon betray him.
How it must have crushed his spirit and shattered his broken heart!
Judas Betrayed Jesus For How Many Pieces Of Silver?
Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests. Matthew 26:14
And said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. Matthew 26:15
And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him. Matthew 26:16
Thirty pieces of silver were all His Lord and Savior worth to Judas? Can you begin to imagine what was going through Judas’s mind after they had taken Jesus away?
Judas hanged himself but friends Hell will be his eternal resting place!
Atonement of Sin
See Friends Jesus knew throughout his whole ministry what the purpose of his life was to be used for. His life and death were to pay OUR atonement of sins.
- Past Sins
- Present Sins
- Future Sins
Do you deserve what he went through for you? One Word! NO!!!!! You deserve NOTHING from Jesus Christ yet he loved you while you were still an enemy of His.
Jesus Christ was sinless yet he died an excruciatingly painful death on a rugged Roman cross for YOU and for ME and he deserved absolutely NONE of what was done to him that dreaded dark day.
Oh, to think of the pain he endured brings tears pouring down my face and I can’t comprehend how Jesus Christ can love someone like me who is so undeserving of God’s magnificent love!
However, for you to be reconciled to God an atonement had to be paid.
One spotless lamb without blemish
It took a spotless lamb without a single blemish to shed the blood necessary to cover all your sins in full and that was the blood from the Savior that He poured out on Mount Calvary to make you right before almighty God!
What Is The Wrong Perception of Communion?
I want to share with you how I viewed communion for the longest time. Growing up I thought it was taboo and sacrilegious.
I worked at a nursing home back in KY and communion was something our residents did every Sunday.
As they were preparing to take communion I thought to myself the following…
- How can they drink that?
- Do they NOT realize what they’re doing?
- Do they NOT know that this is something to take seriously?
I wanted to shout STOP!
What Is the Correct Perception of Communion?
I had the misconception that you need to live a “Perfect Life” to partake of communion. I’ve come to realize that’s NOT true at all. Trust me it has taken me a long time to figure that one out!
By the way…there’s only one perfect individual EVER…Jesus Christ.
Scripture states it plainly. If you are a born-again follower of Jesus Christ it is an ordinance from Jesus Christ himself.
in remembrance of me A Communion Prayer
For as long as we are on this earth we are to take the bread and drink the cup In Remembrance of Jesus’ body broken for you and the blood He shed for you until He returns to take you home to Heaven.
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread. 1 Corinthians 11:23
And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24
In the same way, also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. 1 Corinthians 11:25
IN REMEMBRANCE WARNING
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 11:27
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:28
For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 1 Corinthians 11:29
I want to be honest these couple of scriptures make me feel like I’m hyperventilating sometimes because I am so frightened that I would take communion in an unworthy manner. I would NEVER do that purposely.

What is your heart’s preparation for communion?
Pray beforehand and ask God to forgive anything in your life that isn’t in order, and convict you of it. When I rededicated my life to God I still REFUSED to do communion.
I knew I could NEVER live up to the standards of being worthy enough to do so. The Pastor at my Church gave me scriptures to show me I viewed it all wrong.
Recently my church did a sermon titled What’s your heart preparation before communion?
This is the thing I had to get wrapped around my brain…If I waited till I was “WORTHY ENOUGH” to take communion I would be waiting FOREVER!!
It’s NOT humanly possible for anyone to be worthy or live a perfect life.
That’s why I have Jesus and when God sees me he sees his perfect beloved Son. Only Jesus Christ is perfect and worthy.
Once I finally got that figured out I understood the meaning of communion and as a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, I do these ordinances to remind myself what Jesus did for ME!
I still have moments where I second guess and let it pass me by even though God offers me endless grace.
I know scripture states if you have sins you have NOT confessed to or an unresolved issue with another brother or sister go to the individual first and make it right then you can proceed.
Leave your gift there before the altar and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Your Turn
Everything you read on my website or any social channel are words that God places on my heart. I know someone needs to read this ordinance with unveiled eyes. Maybe you, like me, have had a misconceived idea about partaking in communion. My prayer is that this post helps you view this experience in a new light. It is a humbling experience and draws you into a closer relationship with God for stewardship in Christianity.
