Achieving Spiritual Growth in God

Spiritual growth begins the moment you accept Jesus Christ in your hearts as Lord and Savior. Your sanctification process (aka spiritual growth) will continue daily until you take your final breath on earth and enter God’s presence in Heaven.

What is the definition of spiritual growth in God?

Spiritual growth in God is the process of becoming more mature in your relationship with Jesus Christ. To put it another way, it’s a born-again follower of Jesus who’s growing spiritually and becoming more conformed to the image of God’s one and only perfect begotten Son.

In all honesty, however, you will never become close to becoming like Jesus Christ because He is perfect and you are not and never will be on this side of Heaven. That being said, it doesn’t mean you should not strive to become more like Jesus though.

What are the steps for spiritual growth?

First and foremost, repenting is the first step. After this is a process of sanctification day after day. This means you should always be looking for spiritual growth in God and not become stagnant in your faith.

Though your salvation is secure and complete, there is a work of Christ in your life that is not finished. Spiritual growth in God will continue daily as you live your lives for Christ. That being said, the Christian life is not easy but it’s a fulfilling one!

Jesus Christ understands the situations you face and He experienced the same challenges that you endure. Even on the Cross Jesus asked the Father why had he forsaken him. But he didn’t.

What Does Spiritual Growth in God Consist Of?

I will be the first one to admit that I have too many flaws to name but I want to live my life in such a way that people will know that I’m giving it my best shot in imitating my Lord and Savior. Don’t you feel the same way? I sure hope you do.

As Christians, you are a “work in progress” so to speak. Will you make “all” the right choices? No! Will you mess up? Yes! Over and Over again! Thank you God for grace and mercy is all I can say.

Sometimes I Can Envision God Saying:

“Angie,” “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Backup and Rewind, and do it “my way!”

Jesus

By the way “his way” is much better than “your way!” When you try to go “your way” is when you make a big ole mess of things! It halts your spiritual growth in God.

The difference between Jesus and the rest of the human race is he was tempted in every way but remained Sinless whereas you can’t. However, he does understand and can sympathize with your weaknesses.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

What God has started in you he will see it through to completion. He will never tell you that you need to figure it out on your own because God is a good God and will always show you the way you must follow in his word.

How Do You Achieve Spiritual Growth in God?

Connect with God

When you’re a born-again disciple of Jesus Christ you have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit inside of you, sweet friends. Cast all your burdens and cares upon Him.

Talk to God as you would a best friend because, in all honesty, God is our Best Friend. God loves you unconditionally! This is your direct doorway to gaining spiritual growth.

Read your Bible

If you want to gain spiritual growth in God you must make it a priority to be in God’s word daily. Not only this, but you must be a doer of the word also.

In this world, you will have trouble and you have to know the truth found in the scriptures to ward off the attacks and lies of the devil. You will achieve spiritual growth in God when you study His Word!

When you go before God in prayer you are asking for guidance and direction more often than not, right? Remember, you are the clay in the hands of the potter. God molds and shapes you through prayer.

God is faithful and he always answers. Your prayers may not be answered in the way you want or expect but God makes the path clear for you. Growth in God shines through prayer.

Be spiritually minded

Definition of spiritually-minded: Having the mindset on spiritual things filled with holy desires and purposes.

The Scriptures Show How To Gain Spiritual Growth In God

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. 2 Corinthians 4:17

As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18

Serve others

Look for ways to serve others without expecting anything in return. When I think about this I’m reminded of when Jesus humbled himself to wash the disciple’s feet.

JESUS WASHES THE DISCIPLES’ FEET

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. John 13:1

During supper, the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him. John 13:2

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going back to God. John 13:3

Rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. John 13:4

Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:5

But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8

The one takeaway from this post I want you to keep in mind is…You and I are in the hands of the potter being molded and shaped daily to be conformed in the image of God’s only perfect begotten Son.

YOU ARE:

  • Unfinished
  • Broken
  • Imperfect

HANDS OF THE POTTER: UNFINISHED

YOU ARE:

God’s masterpiece to mold and shape into the form of his beloved Son…Jesus Christ. God is the potter, and YOU are his clay.

Your Turn

God is molding and shaping you daily, until you become finished, on that one glorious day Friends. That is a promise to hold on too tightly. That means you aren’t “sinless” but you should want to “sin less” and allow God to continue his work in you to completion. May you stay on the narrow path that he desires for you so when you are standing, before your Savior and King, he will say…Welcome home my good and faithful servant. That image brings me to tears and leaves a big ole smile on my face!
